As young kids, we knew it. If we ever needed something to be cut or opened, he was there. Around the house, he would carry a folding knife in his pocket or on his belt. 

When I got older, come hunting season, he would carry a straight blade which he used to show me how to dress a deer.  My love for knives came from seeing him use and care for his own collection of classic, quality knives.
